The Background
A large supermarket retailer asked Sullivan & Stanley to scale its Technology organisation rapidly and engaged us to open a new engineering hub in Budapest.
We provided a ~50 strong cross skilled engineering team to gain traction on key projects and then up-skilled the client’s team in a blended mode. During our time with the retailer, we have successfully delivered significant value to customers in a highly complex environment, where scalability, performance and reliability are an absolute requirement.
Our approach
Our team implemented an innovative ‘Modern Delivery’ programme governance framework, providing a structured approach to project management.
We devised a comprehensive engagement and communications strategy, encompassing a problem statement, vision, goals, and success criteria, to ensure effective communication and alignment throughout the transformation journey.
Additionally, we provided leadership coaching and support, guiding leaders in adopting a fresh mindset and approach to transformation. Through the deployment of a robust Programme Delivery approach, we ensured the program’s success, while also assisting the communications team in delivering a transparent and consistent communications plan by offering relevant content and support.
THE OUTCOME

- Implemented the retailer’s self-service check-out solution integrating a bespoke user experience with their chosen hardware vendor and managing staged rollout to test and learn each release cycle.
- Rebuilt the retailer’s online order fulfilment solution to support the increased demand on the service due to COVID and changing habits (from 600K to 1.3 million orders a week with a 60 minute order fulfilment target).
- Built a permanent Budapest Hub that continues to grow quickly with both S&S and the retailer’s colleagues on site.
