We are excited to announce the appointment of Richard Budel as our new Partner for the Public Sector.

Richard has more than 25 years of experience within the IT industry, spending 19 years of this within the public sector. Believing that the public sector can be more empowered to use IT for public good, Richard has worked with large organisations and governments in 77 countries to lead successful and purposeful change.

This vital hire follows an increasing demand over the last six months for us to provide our services to the UK public sector. With Richard’s experience in public safety and security, defence and intelligence, and local governments including the creation of Smart Cities, he will use his extensive knowledge to create a comprehensive value proposition for S&S.

“We can’t wait to work alongside Richard. Not only is his global experience and contacts within the public sector unmatched, but his values align with Sullivan & Stanley’s too.

“We’ve got big ambitions on growing and developing our foothold within the public sector and Richard’s strong knowledge and experience will be crucial in delivering services to our current and growing client-base,” said Pat Lynes, Founder and CEO, Sullivan & Stanley

Richard added: “Sullivan & Stanley has been making a noise in the public sector and as a disruptor in the consulting landscape. Through Pat and Nicole Wright, S&S’ Partner for Europe, I discovered a company that has come to the same conclusions as I have about how we can better help our clients. This is why I’m thrilled to be working with the team to further unlock its public sector offering.

“I believe that change should be delivered for the right reasons and that tech should be a partner in this, rather than leading the government into questionable directions as we have seen so often. From my experience, governments operate best when human endeavours are supported by technology. It’s important for me to work with an organisation that aligns to these beliefs, as well as my values in delivering business for good, so I’m excited to get going.”

Over Richard’s career, he has moved back and forth between the public and private sector working for governments, as well as organisations including IBM and more recently as Chief Technology Officer for Huawei’s government-industry team in Western Europe. A prominent thought leader, Richard is frequently interviewed and invited to speak on topics related to governance and technology in the public sector. Over the next few months Richard will be sharing his insights with our communities through webinars, blogs and reports, so keep an eye out.

Welcome to the team Richard – it’s great to have you on board!
